Prayer flags, when placed in prominent places like the rooftops of monasteries, (or if you don't happen to live in a monastery, your balcony, deck, or in your garden), flutter in the breeze. The mantras and prayers written on them are then distributed freely by the wind for the benefit of all. The colors of the flags correspond to the five elements of Tibetan tradition: earth, air, fire, water, and limitless space.
Om Mani Padme Hum, meaning the Jewel Within the Lotus, is the mantra of Avalokiteshvara, the embodiment of universal compassion. It is said to contain the entire path to enlightenment within it's syllables. The mantra helps the one who repeats it to achieve a deeper connection with their own divine consciousness.
By hanging these prayer flags you are spreading the blessings of the sacred mantra, Om Mani Padme Hum, written on them to your home, your neighborhood and to the entire world.
This is a set of ten flags measuring about 3" by 3" each. Each flag has the Tibetan and the English transliteration printed on it.
