Tibetans use a unique type of ornamental charm called a Gau as an altar when travelling. It is a portable shrine in which the owner's personal deity can be kept. They usually contain prayer scarves, pictures of deities or the Dalai Lama, or other sacred items that the wearer holds dear.
On the front of this gau is the Kalachakra, a group of letters known as the "All-Powerful Ten." This potent mantra is composed of ten overlapping Sanskrit syllables OM HAM KSHA MA LA VA RAYA HUM PHAT.
This gau measures 1 3/4" long and will come threaded on a black cord for wearing. It is made of gilded 925 silver.
Inside this Gau, you can put anything that you hold sacred and would like to carry with you throughout your day, perhaps a photo, flower petals, or a lock of hair. If you would like, we will put a small fragment of a prayer flag inside for you. Just let us know.
